A woman of peace is in Canada today. Link

Cindy Sheehan, the Peace Mom, is asking our government to welcome those who refuse to participate in the criminal activities of the US military in Iraq, and refuse to die for a lie.

And I say let them in.

Of course, knowing Stephen Harper, a man who, if he were Prime Minister back in 2003 Canadians would be dieing in Iraq right now, he's probably going to be an ass about it and be further complicit in chimpie's campaign of murder and deception. ...

"Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt."

You know, I've been getting around to writing a nice big, long, juicy, well thought out, well written serious piece on Canada-US relations and "anti-Americanism" that is free of spelling err...

Since the days of Tommy Douglas, healthcare has always been one of the most important issues facing Canadians, and a big part of massive electoral politics. But today, more than ever, public and private healthcare seem to be heading on a collision course, for one of the epic battles of Canadian politics. It's Ralph Klein vs. Tommy Douglas here, and the fate of the healthcare system hangs in the balance. And us Canadians have front row seats.

Lets take a look at the challengers, shall we?

I...

This has been a week chock full of idiocy. I would like to give an award to the biggest idiot, bur there are four very strong contenders, and I don't think I can choose between them....which is why I'm doing a reader's choice this week. The candidates are Stephen Harper, David Emerson, Brian Mulroney and Peter March

1. Stephen "It's only whoredom when Belinda does it" Harper: He hasn't even been sworn in for five minutes, and he already manages to screw up and abandon his so-called principles...

All right, Harper has just been sworn in as the 22nd Prime Minister of Canada, and he has already pissed me off. Yes, his cabinet choices suck. Let's take a look at some of the highlights, shall we (in no particular order)?

Prime Minister: Stephen Harper...you already know how I feel about this moron.

Health Minister: Tony Clement. You heard that right, Harper put Tony "cuttin hospitals" Clement in charge of healthcare. The man who put the healthcare system of the largest province into cri...

North of the 49th, we sometimes like to pretend racism doesn't exist here. We like to pretend we are a bastion of equality, and that no one has ever been mistreated because of the color of their skin. We look at the stereotypical Mississippi klansman to make ourselves feel better. But are we really that much better?

We live in a country founded on racism. All this land used to belong to the indigenous people of Canada. That is, before a campaign of disease, genocide, forced eviction and Chris...

The year is 1848. On Febuary 21st, a young philosopher by the name of Karl Marx publishes the Communist Manifesto. He subsequently gains superpowers somehow (I'll think of a backstory later), and becomes Super Marx, the greatest hero the working class has ever known!

Yes, my handwriting sucks more than my typing. It is supposed to read "you have nothing to lose but your chains"

Now that Pirate Paul is ready to quit, we are left with the question of who will succeed him. This is going to be an interesting race because it is the first time in a long while that there has been no obvious successor. Heck, the last time around Pirate Paul won something like 92% of the vote. John Manley's out, and I don't think Bob Rae is in the running either (especially with the Air India case taking a good chunk of his time), so I can ignore them. Same with Sheila Copps, since she is now a...

It looks like Stephen Harper is ahead...I need to find a hole to crawl into for the next couple years.

but on the plus side, the NDP seem to be grabbing more seats...perhaps 30?

but still, F*CK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I swear to god, one of these days I am going to move to Cuba. I can at least trust Castro not to destroy the healthcare system.

'Balmy' Winnipeg weather breaks 134-year record
Last Updated Tue, 17 Jan 2006 11:53:20 EST
CBC News

Winnipeg weather records dating back to 1872 have been shattered by a three-week spell of "balmy" temperatures that some experts predict will become more common because of global warming.
The warm weather that has been bathing the region since Dec. 22 is several degrees higher than normal, says University of Winnipeg climatologist Danny Blair.
The average high for January ...

This is from the Elections Canada website, under Frequently Asked Questions:

Is someone allowed to eat a ballot?

Eating a ballot, not returning it or otherwise destroying or defacing it constitutes a serious breach of the Canada Elections Act. These rules are part of a system of unobtrusive checks and balances that are intended to protect the integrity of the voting process and Canadians' trust in the integrity of the electoral system. The relevant procedures provided by the Act are summar...

You know what really grinds my gears? How any debate on American foreign policy has to be put in the context of supporting the troops. "Support the troops, support the war," vs. "Support the troops, bring them home." And meanwhile, you aren't considered a patriot unless you have a yellow ribbon you bought from Wal-Mart on the bumper of your gas guzzling SUV (maybe if you used less gas, we wouldn't be in this war and those people would still be alive). Hell, I saw one of those SUV ribbons in ...

You know what I think is a big conspiracy? How you have all those different kinds of screwdrivers. Slotted, Phillips, Robertson, Torx, (don't even get me started on Torx...), and they all suck but Robertson (If you don't live in Canada, think square). I mean, just look at the slotted ones. They always slip, Phillips always strip, and Torx are just a big pain in the ass. And then they have those ones where you need to get a special tool to unsew them...stupid. But Robertson screws are so easy to ...

WSWS has a good article on the recent bombing of women and children in their home in Iraq.

Link

This is something that didn't even register on CBC. The occupier is resorting to terrorism in order to intimidate the Iraqi population. Of course, the use of state terrorism isn't exactly a new play in the American book of imperialism. But now they are doing it in person instead of by proxies. When you invade foreign countries for nothing other than oil, there is that pesky little problem of the...

Whoever said Canadian politics is boring has obviously never seen anything like the 38th Parliament. With scandal, non-confidence votes, a divided House, party switching and independents, this has been our national soap opera for the last 17 months.

The cast:

Leaders:
Paul Martin (Liberal, leader of Liberal Party, Prime Minister, aka PM (get it, cause his initals are PM and his title is PM...okay, it's a lame pun at best))
It has been a rough couple years for PM. After finally getting Ch...
